Family domestic violence is a significant community issue throughout Australia. Not a day seems to go by without another shocking report of women and children being abused, harmed and even killed. There has been national attention to domestic violence with the release of the Senate’s Interim Report on Domestic Violence in Australia and the Government’s National Domestic Violence Order scheme and the appointment of Rosie Batty as Australian of the Year.
Orana House Inc. provides emergency accommodation to women with children escaping domestic violence and experiencing homelessness in WA. Most often, women arrive at the refuge after experiencing a significant event of family domestic violence and are at a point of crisis. Orana House staff provides food, clothing, medical support, access to counseling and other therapies, and support with all areas of legal and financial aid. They help hundreds of women and their children each year.
